  • Job Specification  

    There are several fundamental requirements which need to be addressed when starting the recruitment process: firstly, writing an accurate job specification.

    When was the last time you amended the ‘job spec’ and are you attracting the right people with your job advert? Are you complying with UK discrimination laws?

    When you interview your shortlisted candidates, are you asking relevant quantifiable competency based questions and scoring their abilities against your needs?

    You may or may not be surprised to hear that many employers spend more time talking about their own business rather than “interviewing” the candidate. By asking the right questions you can draw the information you require to help make an informed decision about the person sat in front of you!

We can give employers some advice as to how they can maximise their efforts and manage their time at the interview stage.   • Interview Templates  

    Half the battle is knowing what questions to ask!

    The best interviews contain a mixture of chronological, competency and role specific questions. We can help you construct a bespoke template for any job. According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Recruitment and Retention survey of 2009, 68% of employers structure their interviews purely on content of a CV or application form.

  • Retained Search  

    Clients also have the option of engaging Fresh in a retained search. We still promise to meet all candidates face to face before submitting a shortlist of CVs but we also carry out all first stage interviews before presenting clients with a second shortlist.

    At the first stage interview, all questions are pre-agreed with the client. Clients then select who they would like to meet in person. We find many clients prefer this method of recruiting as it takes away the time and effort required in CV filtering, interview preparation and shortlisting.

  • Interview Training  

    We understand how nerve raking an interview can be. As well as providing some basic interview tips we can also help by providing more formal interview training which comprises a mock interview or running through some common interview questions. We provide as much or as little help as you require! Here are a few tips to get you started;

    • Take note of the time, date, location and length of the interview.
    • Plan your journey in advance and leave plenty of time.
    • Ask whether you need to do any preparation for the interview (other than what would normally be expected).

    For example will there be any tests or role plays?

    Who will be interviewing you? What is their position within the organisation?

  • Competency Based Questions  

    The all dreaded competency based interview. All good interviewers will base the interview around these questions. In a 2 stage interview process, competency based questions may be left to the second interview.

    In summary, competency based questions are a series of behavioural questions based on the behaviours identified as essential for the role you’re interviewing for. The interviewer will ask you to describe a situation which demonstrates your ability to express these behaviours such as; communication, leadership and teamwork.

    As part of our interview training programme, we can run through the most commonly used competency based questions and how best to answer them.
